Bamboo Toilet Paper vs Recycled Paper Toilet Paper - Which is better?

Which one is best - Bamboo Toilet Paper or Recycled Paper Toilet Paper?

Which one is better depends on your priorities, preferences, perspective and location.

Both recycled paper toilet paper and bamboo toilet paper have their advantages and disadvantages.  Recycled paper toilet paper is made from post-consumer paper waste, such as newspapers, magazines, and office paper, that has been re-pulped and processed into new toilet paper.

Recycling paper reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, conserves natural resources, and requires less energy and water to produce compared to virgin paper.

Bamboo toilet paper, on the other hand, is made from bamboo, which is a fast-growing, renewable resource that requires less water and pesticides to grow compared to trees. Bamboo also releases more oxygen into the atmosphere and absorbs more carbon dioxide than trees, making it more environmentally friendly.

However, there are some concerns with bamboo toilet paper. Some critics argue that the production of bamboo toilet paper may not be as sustainable as it seems, as it often requires significant amounts of water and energy to process the raw bamboo into toilet paper.  Additionally, bamboo is often shipped from Asia to Western countries, which can have a large carbon footprint.

Also, since no Bamboo toilet paper is produced in Australia, from an Australian's perspective, recycled-paper toilet paper is also the better option - it can stimulate the local economy and preserve local jobs.

Most people who are trying to decide between Bamboo and recycled paper toilet paper, are considering their country and planet, not their wallets.  However, it is a bonus that recycled paper toilet paper is usually much cheaper than Bamboo toilet paper; sometimes about half the price!  You could choose to put that savings toward a good cause.

Ultimately, both recycled paper toilet paper and bamboo toilet paper have their pros and cons. It's up to the individual consumer to weigh the environmental impact, cost, and personal preferences when choosing which type of toilet paper to use.

If you live in Australia and choose to use recycled-paper toilet paper, make sure you check the source.  If it seems extra cheap, it's bound to be imported.  Imported brands may not just be environmentally-unfriendly, due to lack of controls, it may also be socially-unfriendly, employing children and expecting employees to work in unsanitary conditions with few breaks and low pay.  You don't want to choose this option only to end up buying a brand that is imported!

If you like the idea of supporting local businesses rather than large corporations (who may be owned overseas), please consider WPop.  We offer subscriptions (which can be modified as necessary) for our recycled paper toilet paper, we deliver to your door using carbon-neutral couriers, and we're keeping our delivery costs low as possible.

Choosing to buy brands, and from local businesses, that are locally-made and locally-owned really is doing the right thing for your nation, and your planet too.
